    Unethical Promotion?, October 18, 2012

I ordered this product last November when my doctor prescribed me Vitamin D. With the product, I got an invitation from the seller to write a review and get free product. I were to write a review and after their verification, they would send me the free product.I think I understood how it was getting all those 5 star reviews. I believe it is unethical for any seller to give away free product for a review. There is reallly high chance that most of those reviews will turn out to be positive.

As far as the product is concerned, it didn’t work for me. After taking it for about 6 months I had my review and my Vitamin D level was still low. Then I bought another ‘natural’ brand from CVS (they come in green bottles 😉 and had another review after 3 months. My D levels are normal now. May be it has some thing to do with my body but truth is that the Nutrigold D3 did not work for me.

I should have known from beginning from their unethical promotion and a spell error on their label that their product too wouldn’t be any better. But I’m not FDA and don’t want to pass judgement on it. I can only say that it didn’t work for me.

    Added on 04/29/2013:
My review has been getting many comments. Some agree with me and some don’t. Some of the negative comments even go to the extend of suggesting that I have some hidden motive behind my review. Just want to clarify a bit here.

My original review has two parts. One is about ‘my view’ of the offer of free product for a review. I believe it is unethical business promotion as there is a chance of people writing a favorable review. The second is about ‘my’ view or ‘my’ experience with the product. I’ve been honest with both. I have no stakes in any vitamin or food supplements business to this date. I also have no personal grudge with Nutrigold or Amazon.

Honestly, I wouldn’t trust mine or any one else’s review of any vitamin supplements or medications just for the reason that we are neither trained to evaluate the effects of a pharmaceutical product. We are not the FDA. The review we write are about the personal ‘experience’ that we have with the product. It shouldn’t be taken as acurate.

I respect the views of those who disagree with me on this product. And I appreciate the time they have taken to comment here. It’s the discussion that makes Amazon a better place shop. I have only one request, please don’t make it personal. I’m not here to settle personal scores with any one.

    A life saver!, September 18, 2011

Working night shift since 1997 has definitely kept me from getting my fair share of sun. Also since I don’t drink milk & eat pretty crappy there was not much chance of getting the RDA of vitamin D via my diet. I didn’t even realize how deficient I was until it literally felt like I was dying! I mean ZERO energy. It was a struggle just to get out of bed or do simple tasks..not to mention the foggy brain, dry lifeless skin & hair, forgetfulness, and feeling depressed. Originally I thought it was a thyroid issue but had that ruled out then discoverd my vitamin D levels were ridiculously low. I have been taking this supplement for approx 2 months now & it has really given me my vigor & zest for life back! I feel like a whole new person. I recommend everyone get their vitamin D levels checked if you are at risk for being deficient like I was. Who knew such a tiny little pill could make such a huge difference?

    It’s slowly working, May 28, 2012

My doctor decided to check my vitamin D levels since I was complaining of fatigue. This was in December 2011. After some research into Vitamin D and the different products available, I decided to buy this brand. I started taking one pill a day the second week in January 2012. On April 2nd, 2012, I went back to the doctor for another test. Just for clarification, the doctor did a ‘Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy’ blood test, and the scale was 30 – 100 ng/ml. In December, I had tested at 23.8, when I went back at the beginning of April, I tested at 30.4. So yes, it is working, but very slowly. I can’t imagine anyone seeing improvement or vitality in just a few weeks. Even though my number has improved, I’m still fatigued all the time. Its my understanding from what I’ve read that you need to be between 50 and 70 on the test scale to see increased energy levels. Due to my scheduling, I hardly ever get sunshine, which would probably help increase my Vitamin D levels faster. I do think this is a good product. I live in Georgia, and we can’t even buy 5000IU tablets over the counter here as they don’t sell them in the stores. I have not had any side-effects with this vitamin, and it does not cause any kind of stomach upset. I’m very pleased with the performance so far, and I will update my review when I have additional blood tests performed. I do recommend this product as a safe and effective way to slowly increase your Vitamin D levels. Just don’t expect overnight results.

Update June 1, 2012: After my Apr 2nd doctors visit, I increased my dose as follows: 1 pill three days a week, and two pills four days a week. On June 1st, I had another blood test, and my Vitamin D is now 47.5. Still no increase in energy or even just feeling better.

Update 9/16/12: After the June 1st results were received, I dropped back down to just one pill a day. Had a new Vitamin D test on 9/16. Vitamin D is now 52.6. Still no increase in energy (beginning to think this may not be the reason for my continued fatigue). Just to recap, after 9 months on this product, my Vitamin D level has increased 28.8 points.
